It’s undoubtedly one of the best works in world literature. Rajneesh, who is the greatest spiritual leader of this century said “it’s the best novel he has read and i am jealous with Maxim Gorky because if he wouldn’t have written this book then i would have written it, but let me tell you this that this JEALOUSY is not the way you are thinking, this jealousy is really beautiful.”
Really a great work of literature from one of the most prominent figures of literature.

Mother was the first novel I read in my adolescence and even today I cry while reading this novel. I love this novel because I believe in the part of the world where I grew up (Dera Ghazi Khan/Southern Punjab) there were many elderly women who really were “the mother” of Maxim Gorky.. only they could not come out to take part in any “May Day” demonstration…. in the days of General Zia’s martial law reading novel’s like Mother was considered by the kids like me a great achievement…
things have changed a lot since…
thanks anyways for writing an excellent review and reminding me of my lovely old days..
